Dear MGIS Users,
We have continued enhancing the content and features of the MGIS website.
As previously mentionned and following the publication of Collecting and managing in situ banana genetic resources information ( Musa spp.) using online resources and citizen science in Database: The Journal of Biological Databases and Curation (May 2024), we are actively expanding the curated in situ data. This work, led by Christophe Jenny from CIRAD, compiles information from various sources, literatures, banana natural biodiversity mapping, Pl@ntNet, GBIF, Flickr photos and Google Street view. Picture links have been saved for future illustration, provided the copyright license permits public sharing (specifically, CC-BY licenses).
Menu update
A new menu item appeared between ex situ collections and the in situ observations items.
It provides access to the online version of the Musa cultivars catalog, as featured in the article Painting the diversity of a world's favorite fruit: A next generation catalog of cultivated bananas published in Plants, People, Planet journal in October 2024.

Data update
The quality of passport data for ITC collection have been improved by using:
- literature,
- old passport data files from partners' s collection,
- new scanned collecting mission reports.
As a result, geo reference (+10) and few collecting date have been retrieved and helped to improve the Passport Data Completeness Index (PDCI) (van Hintum et al. 2011) for the ITC collection. The value of the PDCI is now 7.09 for the entire ITC collection.
Publication
We continue to track articles that cite ITC accessions and map them to particular accessions and traits:
- Cooking mode and ripening stage influence physicochemical and nutritional properties of boiled plantain pulps
- East African highland cooking banana: towards an efficient selection of hybrids with user-preferred food quality traits
- Evaluations of ITC accessions for their reaction to Foc R1 and TR4
- Pollen Amount and Viability in Mchare and Selected Wild (AA) Banana (Musa acuminata) Genotypes: Prospects for Breeding
- User preferences and consumer acceptability of boiled plantain in rural and urban localities in Cameroon
